Biography

I am thrilled to start my third year at St. Margaret of Scotland this year!

In 2001 I received my Masters in Social Work from Washington University. During my career as a social worker I had the opportunity to work with families and children of all ages. After my son was born I spent several years at an insurance company where I continued to use my counseling skills on the phone, but found after a few years that I missed working directly with children and families. I decided to return to school and obtain my teaching certificate. I have always loved learning and new challenges and teaching seemed like the perfect way to blend my counseling skills with my passion for working with children. I was blessed to have an understanding boss who supported my dreams and worked with me to make this happen! I completed my student teaching in 2013 and taught fourth grade for one year. In May of 2014, I completed my Masters of Arts in Education.

I am excited to continue teaching fifth grade at SMOS this year and watch my students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. In my classroom I emphasize both academics and kindness towards each other. Fifth grade is such a wonderful, exciting year and I love watching the students gain confidence in themselves, mature, and ultimately prepare for the independence of middle school.

I grew up in St. Louis and am lucky enough to have my entire family here. I live in the city with my husband and eleven-year-old son. Much of my weekends are spent running my son around, watching him play sports, and enjoying time with him and his friends. In my spare time I enjoy reading and spending time with friends and family. I am very happy to be part of the SMOS community and am looking forward to a fantastic school year!
