Teacher

Happy to be home!

I'm home at St. Margaret of Scotland.  SMOS is "home" in so many ways:  it is my home parish; it is where my three children received their elementary education; it is the name on the jerseys my children wore for many years when playing various sports; and it is the site of six of my most memorable teaching years in the late 80's and early 90's.

I am in my 43rd  year of teaching, but feel like I am just starting out in so many ways.  Education has changed drastically since I began teaching in 1976, and I enjoy opportunities to learn new ways of teaching from younger colleagues and professional development opportunities.  I like to use innovative techniques while accomplishing goals and objectives that are tried and true.   The Common Core State Standards provides a new challenge and opportunity for me to contribute to the excellence for which St. Margaret of Scotland is known.

My teaching experience:

Nativity of Our Lord, north St. Louis city, second grade, 2 years
St. Thomas the Apostle, north St. Louis county, Kindergarten, 8 years
St. Margaret of Scotland, grades 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 in various grades and subject areas, 5 years
St. Mary Magdalen, St. Louis city, principal, 13 years
St. Katharine Drexel, St. Louis city, principal, 5 years
St. Margaret of Scotland, third grade teacher,  2010 - 2015; Middle School Gr. 6 2015 - ?

I have lifetime Missouri State certification in Elementary Education, K - 8, and Special Education for mentally handicapped children.  I also have lifetime state certification in Elementary School Administration, with an M.A. from UM-SL.  I have many credit hours past my Masters degree, and numerous hours of professional development.

My husband, Tim, died in August of 2016 and I am confident that he continues to support me in my ministry of education from a prime seat in heaven.  I have three children:  Caitlin, Kevin and Ted.  My youngest child, Ted, began work at St. Margaret of Scotland as a teacher's aide in Kindergarten.  I have an adopted dog, Addison, from the Humane Society. I enjoy swimming, reading, watching television, and playing computer games.  I am a sports fan, devotedly following St. Louis Cardinals (I currently have a secondary job as an usher at Busch Stadium) , SLU Billikens, and St. Louis Blues.  Most of all, I am happy to be "home" again at SMOS.
