Volunteer Opportunities

Academic Events
Each year students participate in several special academic events, like the Bellarmine Speech Competition,   History Day, and Science Fair. The teachers that lead up these efforts can always use a helping hand.

Field Trip Assistants
Each Classroom takes field trips.  The classroom teacher chooses a fun yet educational location.  Adult volunteers are needed to attend and transport children.  The classroom teacher will send home request for volunteers.  

Event Helper
Volunteers are need through out the school year to staff the various events that take place at school or at a fundraising event. 

Grant Writing
Volunteers who are skilled in grant writing are needed to find and complete grant applications that will support or expand our education programs.   If you are interested in offering your talents in this area contact the school office at 314-776-7837 and talk to Mrs. Stevens the Office Manager.

Library Aid
SMOS has a school library open on Wednesday.  The library is staffed entirely by volunteers who assist the children in selecting books,  reading stories and a variety of other task (More)

Marketing & Development Committee
The Marketing & Development Committee is a School Board Committee that markets the school and coordinates the work and scheduling of various fundraising for the school.

Musical Performance
Each year, our music program puts on several performances.   It takes many hands to make these performances happen.  Stage decorations, sound, lighting, and costumes are some of the areas that assistance is need.

Office Assistance
The school office occasionally needs assistance with preparing documents, making phone calls or other general office assistance.  If you are interested in offering your talents in this area contact the school office at 314-776-7837 and talk to Mrs. Stevens the Office Manager.

Parent Teacher Association
The PTA is a multi-purpose organization that is primarily responsible for facilitating community building and communication between faculty and parents.   The PTA sponsors a host of activities for the school community and student activities.  None of these activities would be possible with out the corps of parents, parishioners and volunteers who generously offer their time and talent (More)

Playground/Cafeteria Assistance
Do you want to get out of the house in the middle of the day and join groups of our students as they chow down or romp on the playground?  If you are interested in offering your time in this way, contact the school office.

Physical Plant
Just like your house, our school needs attention paid to its buildings and grounds. If you are interested in offering your talents in this area contact the school office at 314-776-7837 and talk to Mrs. Stevens the Office Manager.

Room Parent
Room parents are volunteers used in each grade to complete several necessary and helpful tasks. (More)

Safety Patrol
Volunteers are needed to assist with school drop off.  The safety of our children is of great concern to us so procedures were put in place to protect the children and to create an efficient and consistent drop-off and pick-up procedure.  You can volunteer to help as often as you like.

School Board
The purpose of the school board is to advise the Pastor during the process of reviewing and creating policies for St. Margaret of Scotland School Programs. Volunteers from the school and parish communities are elected to the school board. (More)

Scouting (Boys)
SMOS School offers Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs starting in Kindergarten.  The programs’ goals are to build character, teach participatory citizenship and help develop personal fitness.  Volunteers coordinate the overall scouting programs at school and each pack, or a volunteer leader runs the troop. Scouting (Girls)
Girl Scouting programs are offered begining in Kindergarten.  The program’s goals are to encourage skill building and responsibility and also to promote the development of strong leadership decision-making skills.  Volunteers coordinate the overall scouting program at school and a volunteer leader run each troop.  (More)

Sports
The goal of the SMOS Athletic Association is to allow every boy and girl the opportunity to participate in athletics and by doing so, develop discipline and respect, build character and gain an understanding of the value of teamwork.  Volunteers are needed to be on the Athletic Association Board and to coach. Teacher Aides

Technology Committee
The Technology Committee helps to integrate technology into the educational process in such a way that each student is prepared to effectively utilize computers and the Internet in their learning, and to be technically literate.   If you are interested in offering your talents in this area, contact the school office at 314-776-7837 and talk to Mrs. Stevens the Office Manager.

Tutoring
Volunteers are needed to tutor students who need additional help in a variety of subjects.  If you are interested in working as a student tutor, please contact the school office at 314-776-7837 and talk to Mrs. Stevens the Office Manager.

Website Committee
The Website Committee focuses on developing and maintaining a dynamic school website.  Members provide content and advise the Webmaster on site’s look and function. 

How to become a Volunteer?
Volunteers are encouraged to participate in the school community as room parents, scout leaders or as coaches for the sports programs.
