Boy Scouts

The Boy Scouts of America is the nation's foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training.  St. Margaret of Scotland charters two programs for the Boy Scouts of America designed differently for two very different age levels.

Our Cub Scout Pack 110 (for boys in grades 1-5) offers an adult-led program that introduces boys to scouting, including a carefully graduated introduction to camping and outdoor adventure. In Cub Scouts the boys are organized by grade with a parent-child program for first graders called Tiger Cubs and the traditional Cub Scout program for grades 2-5 in which the boys are grouped by grade (2nd-grade Wolf Cubs, 3rd-grade Bear Cubs, 4th & 5th-grade Webelos) with each grade-level group led by an adult. Beginning halfway through fifth grade, interested boys may join Boy Scouts.

Our Boy Scout Troop 110 is a boy-led, adult-guided program that is designed for boys ages 11-18 to (1) offer young people responsible fun and adventure; (2) instill in young people lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law; (3) train young people in citizenship, service, and leadership, and (4) serve America's communities and families with its quality, values-based program. Our Boy Scout Troop pursues an active camping and outdoor adventure program including at least one week of high-adventure each year (e.g., backpacking in the New Mexico wilderness or Grand Canyon, white-water rafting in the Great Smokey Mountains, desert island survival in the Florida Keys, etc.).

Both year-round programs appreciate the importance of sports and other activities in children's lives and both programs work to accommodate families with their busy schedules.

Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts of the USA is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls—all girls—where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.

We have a very active Girl Scout program at St. Margaret’s and are fortunate to have a troop in nearly every grade.  A short description of each level follows along with the contact information for the troop leaders.  Each age level is an opportunity for learning and growth, new experiences, building confidence and developing skills.

Daisy Girl Scouts:  fun introduction to Girl Scouting at the kindergarten level.  Girls play games, make crafts, sing songs, etc. They earn Learning Petals that represent the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Brownie Girl Scouts:  grades 1-3.  Girls earn Try-It Patches and learn about the history of Girl Scouting and Juliette Gordon Low, the founder.  They begin selling Girl Scout Cookies at this age level.

Junior Girl Scouts:  grades 3-6.  Girls earn Badges and have the opportunity to earn other insignia and awards, including the Bronze Award.  They take more initiative in planning troop activities and they begin camping.

Cadette Girl Scouts:  grades 6-9.  Girls earn Interest Project Patches and have more opportunities to earn awards at this level, including the Silver Award.  They’re very involved in the planning of troop activities, trips and community service.
