academic curriculum

The academic program of the school is structured on three levels to address the developmental needs of all students and monitor the ongoing progress of students.

Primary Level (Montessori-Grade 1)
The program focuses on the developmental needs of the student and uses a structured exploratory approach.  Developing good social skills and motivation for learning are strongly promoted. The Primary Grade Progam fosters independent learning. Early attention to being a responsible learner is fostered through learning experience and activities that provide students with basic knowledge, skills, values, attitudes and behaviors needed to be successful at the next learning level.

Middle Level (Grade 2- 5)
The program focuses on the developmental readiness of students to approach various learning concepts and skills.  There is a strong emphasis on learning to be independent, responsible and organized as well as working cooperatively with others in their learning, both in school and outside of school. The focus of the Middle Level is on developing good organizational skills and study habits.

Upper Level (Grade 6-8)
The program introduces departmental classes with a rotation of specific classes, which help students continue to develop their skills as independent learners and also the social skills necessary to work cooperatively on group projects.  This is accomplished in and beyond the formal classroom setting. The focus of the Upper Level is using the skill learned at lower levels and encouraging students to take greater ownership in assessing their learning needs. This means taking the initiative to seek advice and assistance from teachers and fellow students, to be critical, analytical and creative in the learning process and to handle capably both short-term and long-term assignments.
